Today we went to Mont St Michel. First seeing it is absolutely amazing. It looks so out of place. It appears as a castle standing in the middle of nowhere. When I first saw it I thought of the movie castle in the sky, for when the mountain is surrounded by fog it truly appears as a castle in the sky.

The place is surrounded by a beach but when the tide comes in it’s surrounded completely by water and you can only take the bridge to get there. There are even a few hotels inside that you can stay at.
To get to the cathedral on top (which I think looks like a castle) you have to walk these super steep paths surrounded by shops and cafes and large stair cases. Once there you can get your ticket and an audio tour guide and go explore.
The cathedral was used by monks. One room we ventured into was used as a mass dining area. The monks would only eat twice a day and only of food they deemed worthy. They would have vine imported as they considered the local vine tainted and would sometimes eat whale when they got stranded on shore.
Another space had a giant turning wheel. They would take 6 prisoners and place them inside to run.
At high point of the cathedral you can find beautiful look out spots. There are also little garden/grassy spots you can lay down and take a break.
Overall St Michel is a very beautiful place to be. The sights are amazing and you can have some fun at the water's edge. Be warned though, there are very wet clay/sand spots and it you aren’t careful your shoe will get stuck and be covered in dark gray clay.
