JULY 4: Musée de l'Orangerie

Today was a bit slower as we just started classes. For this day we went to the Musée de l'Orangerie (Orangerie Museum). The building use to hold oranges for the orchard in the winter months. Famous pieces of art like by Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Claude Monet. Have their pieces there.

Claude Monet’s famous Blue Water Lilies are there in two connected rooms. They are in the  style of an oval with natural light coming in as he stated it would give the viewer the full affect of his work. I have to agree as if was a peaceful and inspiring sight to view the painting all around you.

Another of my favorites were of Marie Laurencin’s work. She had very beautiful paintings using pastel and greys. She was apart of the “Picasso gang” and studied drawing in Paris and Academie Humbert.

I also found a little set of the 4 stages of the Orangerie.

  1. It was built in 1852 by Firmin Bourgeois as a shelter for orange trees.

  1. The hall was later used for multiple task such as exam hall, concert hall, and exhibition hall.

  1. In the 1920s it was changed to showcase Monet’s Blue Water Lilies.

  1. In the 1960s it was designed into 2 levels but wasn’t finished into today's building until 2000.

The paintings were my all time favorite out of all the art there. The different lights and colors that expressed so much feeling and life were spectacular. I would definitely come to this museum again given the chance. Overall it was a wonderful art museum and I found many paintings I loved. I even got a poster of one.
