Today we went to La Sainte Chapelle and La Conciergerie which is part of the Palais de Justice (use to be known as Palais de la Cité).
La Sainte Chapelle is very beautiful and full of lively colors. The colors make it one of the liveliest churches I’ve ever been to which is saying something since many use to be painted like this in the past and it’s just fallen out of tradition. The sculptures in the church were just as painted as the rest of the church. It was all very spectacular in its golds, blues, and reds.
As the church was part of a palace the it wasn’t very big but it did have a very magnificent rose window at the west end. This along with all the windows could out beat the rainbow in the collection of vibrancy in the church.
Along with the Sainte Chapelle we also visited the La Conciergerie. The La Conciergerie use to house prisoners, especially rich and famous prisoners. One such person was Marie-Antoinette. Within the building there is only piece of locks and keys on display along with other artifacts.
Besides these displays there is also recreated rooms with props and mannequins showing how the rooms use to look. There is rooms such as were the guards would congregate and store weapons and prisoners cells. The most famous is the set up of Marie-Antoinette's last hours. The room shows her dressed in black praying while being watched by guards. It is a very sad scene as she had lost some children while there and her husband (King Louis XVI) had already been executed months before.
Besides these the building was very pretty as it was also used as gather places at one point. The architecture was very magnificent and very spacious that you could run around.
